Moto Mounts: How fast will they charge my phone?
In short, it depends on so many factors that there just isn’t a specific answer.
The longer answer is that charging speed on a PD Moto Mount depends on your phone model, phone age, battery level, what apps you’re using, and even the temperature and weather conditions.
What we can say for certain is that PD Moto Mounts will charge your phone noticeably faster than a 3rd party motorcycle mount that is not Qi2 certified, provided that the phone model you are using has Qi2 charging capabilities.* If you’ve used a 3rd party wireless charging phone mount in the past, it almost certainly was not Qi2 certified, since the Qi2 standard wasn’t released to the public until late 2023. If you often wirelessly charge your phone on your bike and use power-heavy apps like those for navigation/GPS, you’ve likely experienced the downside of older wireless charging protocols. You may have started charging your phone at the beginning of your ride, and then 2 hours later you get off your bike and find out that it actually has the same or even slightly less charge than it had before. This is because older wireless charging technology allowed for, in most cases, a maximum of 5 watts of power delivery.
Qi2 allows for a maximum of 15 watts of power delivery, which results in a peak charging speed that is 2x faster than the previous protocol (simply called ‘Qi’).
*Apple iPhone models from the 12 onwards support Qi2 charging. Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel products have not yet adopted the Qi2 standard, but are expected to with their upcoming releases as they are both members of the WPC (Wireless Power Consortium). Phones that don’t support Qi2 charging will still charge just fine, but will be limited to 5W power delivery, resulting in a slower charge.

Moto Mounts: What is Qi2, why does it matter, and what is the certification process?
Qi2 is a new standard for wireless charging that enables more powerful, faster, and more efficient charging. We like all of those things, so we’ve been developing Qi2 products for months and we’ll use the standard for all of our charging mounts and accessories moving forward.
The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) oversees this standard and certifies new products, including for our new moto mounts. Here’s the thing: we’re the very first to develop a mechanically locking phone mount with Qi2. This makes the process a little longer and more complex, so we’re working together with the WPC to iron out the final details.
The most important thing to know is that these mounts are designed and built to Qi2 specs. We’ve passed all of the laboratory tests and are still working our way through a few interoperability tests, but we’re very close (like 98% close) to getting the paperwork done. In short, we’re entirely confident that certification will be complete by the end of the campaign.

Moto Mounts: Where do the charging mounts plug in on my bike?
The Qi2 wireless charging versions of our Moto Mounts each come with a 1M waterproof USB-C power cable. This cable requires a USB-C charging port for power delivery. Most newer motorcycles have a built-in USB-C charging port.
If your bike does not have a USB-C charging port, don’t worry. There are several options:
-
If your bike has a USB-A charging port, or an SAE port, you can get our Cable Kit. The Cable Kit is in our Add-Ons list. If you’re unfamiliar with Kickstarter Add-Ons, we have more info about it right here in the FAQ.
-
If your bike has a 12V cigarette lighter style power port, you can buy a 3rd party USB-C adapter and plug it into that port.
-
If your bike has none of these, you can buy a 3rd party SAE port that connects to your bike’s electrical system, and then get our SAE Cable Kit. If you’re not too familiar with your motorcycle’s electrical system, we recommend consulting a professional mechanic. SAE ports are helpful for other things, like trickle charging or jumpstarting. Here’s a Youtube video on how to install one: https://youtu.be/m3INnouQzzw?feature=shared
GETTING THE SAE CABLE? READ THIS.
Many SAE power ports do not automatically switch off when you turn your bike off. We strongly recommend using an SAE power source that is connected to a switched portion of the electrical system and not the battery directly so that it is powered only when the motorcycle is running and not powered when the bike is turned off. Otherwise, you’ll risk draining your battery. Again, if you’re not familiar with your bike’s electrical system, consult a professional mechanic.
WANT TO KNOW MORE? READ ON.
We make 3 different charging cables (USB-C, USB-A, SAE) but they all connect to our charging moto mounts in the same way: via a waterproof IP67 ‘pigtail’ connector. We designed it this way so that the electrical connection is as low-profile and water-tight as possible.
For full Qi2 charging speed, you need a USB-C power source on your bike that supports USB-PD and a minimum of 24W. Consult your owners manual for specifications of your bike. If your power source does not meet those criteria your phone will still charge perfectly fine, just at a lower speed. USB-A power sources are generally limited to 5W of power delivery. SAE power sources will charge at full speed.

Moto Mounts: How effective is the vibration damping?
Very. It’s been extensively tested, first by our engineers, then by over 100 beta testers all over the world, and finally by the many tens of thousands of people worldwide who own our first-generation motorcycle mounts.
For a detailed account of how our vibration damping technology works, read this help article on the Peak Design website: https://www.peakdesign.com/pages/faq?a=Vibration-Protection-with-Peak-Design-Motorcycle-Mounts—id–924V9bvdTXye7EVYM6N_2Q&utf8=%E2%9C%93&commit=Search

Moto Mounts: Will the PD Universal Adapter work with PD wireless charging Moto Mounts?
The Universal Adapter will connect securely to all of our Moto Mounts. But when it comes to wireless charging, phones with a Universal Adapter will experienced mixed results.
Whether or not your phone will charge with a Universal Adapter depends on a huge variety of factors, including what model phone you have, what the thickness of your phone case is, and the position of the Universal Adapter on the phone case. For all of these reasons, we cannot guarantee you’ll be able to wirelessly charge your phone while using a PD Universal Adapter.
Many customers find that they’re able to wirelessly charge their phone with a Universal Adapter, but often times charging will not happen as quickly as it would with a Peak Design phone case. This is because the added thickness of the 3rd party case plus the Universal Adapter, as well as the possibility that the Universal Adapter is not perfectly aligned with your phone’s charging coil.
Correct Universal Adapter installation will increase your chances of decent charging performance by ensuring that the Adapter is perfectly centered on the phone, directly over the phone’s charging coil.
Note that the Universal Adapter is not meant to be stuck directly to the back of your naked phone. Though extensive testing we’ve found that most phones have a hydrophobic exterior that does not bond well with our Universal Adapter.

Fulfillment: When will these products ship?
In short, we expect reward shipments to happen by the end December of this year, and we’re very confident in that date. If all goes well, we may end up shipping things quite a bit earlier than that. But the world is unpredicable, so we’d rather under-promise and over-deliver.
Before we get into the details it’s worth noting that it’s possible our new moto mounts will be on sale to the general public before you receive your Kickstarter reward. That’s typically not the case for a vast majority of backers, but it is nonetheless possible. Peak Design products are sold in thousands of dealers worldwide. Fulfilling Kickstarter rewards and fulfilling wholesale and retail orders are both massive logisitcal projects, and both have very different paths of execution. For a multitude of reasons, many related to having multiple global fulfillment centers, you may see our new Qi2 charging mounts on sale at a local dealer before you receive it. What you definitely won’t see are these new products being sold at a 20-34% discount…that is the primary benefit of backing our Kickstarter campaign. Even during our once-a-year Black Friday Sale, we will not discount products to the same extent as we do on Kickstarter.
Back to shipping timelines…the slightly longer answer is that our new Moto Mounts are already entering the beginning stages of mass-production. We expect most of production to occur during the months of August and September, and during that time we should have bulk batches of Moto Mount shipments headed to our 6 global warehouses via sea freight. Those shipments should arrive at warehouses starting in October. From there, they will get received and processed into our inventory and then shipped out to Kickstarter backers.
If this is your first time backing a Kickstarter, note that in order to receive your products you will need to fill out our fulfillment survey. We will send that survey out after the campaign has ended, once we are ready to ship rewards…likely in mid-to-late September. In that survey we will collect your shipping address, calculate/collect sales tax or VAT, and give you an opportunity to add on additional products to your reward for an exclusive discount.

Fulfillment: How will my products ship and will I get tracking?
DOMESTIC: If you’re in the US, we’ll be shipping your package using a ground service (USPS or FedEx depending on destination and shipment size). These packages will have tracking information that will work within the US.
INTERNATIONAL: Non-US orders will ship from one of our 5 international warehouses located in the UK, Netherlands, HK, Toronto, and Australia. In order to provide a better fulfillment experience (and in some cases reduce duties that backers have to pay), Peak Design is going to be importing all of our products into these countries prior to shipping them to you. This means that your shipments:
- Won’t require duties to be collected on delivery in Canada, UK, EU, HK, and Australia (other countries may have applicable duties, please check with your customs office for specific details. Customers are responsible for paying local sales tax / VAT/GST, which will be calculated and charged when you fill out your fulfillment survey and enter in your shipping information.)
- Will arrive quickly and not get held up in customs.
- May have tracking, but may not guaranteed (depending on the particular post service, of which there are too many used to name).
Note that we cannot alter the value of your rewards on customs declarations - the value will be declared as the total value of the items contained in the shipment
Last updated: July 09, 2024 07:33
Fulfillment: When will you send Fulfillment Surveys and what is the purpose of them?
When you back this project, you choose a reward level, maybe some add-ons, then enter your credit card info, and that’s it. You don’t provide a shipping address. You don’t pick which model of phone case or which style Moto Mount you want. You’ll enter that information in our fulfillment survey.
WHEN WILL I GET MY SURVEY? We plan to send our fulfillment surveys out in mid-to-late September.
WHY IN SEPT AND NOT AUG? Primarily becuase the iPhone 16 is expected to launch in mid-September, and when it does, Peak Design will begin selling cases for it. Given that our Kickstarter rewards won’t ship until December, we expect that many backers will have upgraded to iPhone 16 models and will want to receive an iPhone 16 case. By sending our surveys in late September, it gives backers the opportunity to get an iPhone 16 case with their rewards.
WHAT CAN I DO IN THE FULFILLMENT SURVEY? A whole bunch of stuff: - Provide your shipping address - Pick which Moto Mount you want (if you backed a reward containing a Moto Mount) - Pick which case model/color you want (if you added on a case to your reward) - Add additional items onto your reward at exclusive Kickstarter discount prices - Change which reward level you want - Pay taxes/VAT on your total order (because Kickstarter does not provide the ability to calculate/collect taxes)
Last updated: July 09, 2024 07:33
Fulfillment: Do I have to pay taxes and shipping fees?
In short, yes.
Shipping fees are collected when you back this project. They differ across global region and in all cases the fees we collect are less than the actual cost of shipping. What’s nice is that you only pay one shipping fee for your reward—you can add on as many additional products as you’d like and your fee will not go up.
Peak Design has an an obligation to register, collect, and remit sales tax in certain USA states and countries worldwide in which certain backers are located. Taxes are not included in the pledge price but will be charged at time of checkout based on purchaser’s shipping address.
We would love to collect tax up-front just like every other online sale, but the Kickstarter platform does not have tax functionality. So instead we use a fulfillment software called BackerKit, which is capable of calculating/charging taxes based on your total order amount and shipping location. To see if taxes are collected in your region, please refer to the Peak Design webpage located at https://www.peakdesign.com/pages/faq?a=Taxes-(US-VAT-and-GST)—id–SJ1qVGLwQOWO9vxjYTUanA
Last updated: July 09, 2024 07:33
Fulfillment: Will all of my rewards and add-ons ship together or separately?
In most cases, all of your rewards and add-ons will ship together in one shipment. In rare cases, backers might receive their stuff in multiple shipments. This could be caused by a number of reasons, but the most likely one would be if one of the add-ons you ordered (like a Midnight iPhone 15 Pro Max case) went temporarily out of stock in one of our warehouses. We work hard to make sure stock outages don’t happen, but with hundreds of individual SKUs across 6 warehouses, they do happen from time to time.

Orders: What is your policy on returns/refunds?
While all of our products are guaranteed for life, we do not offer refunds, returns, or exchanges on items received as Kickstarter rewards.
The support we get from our Kickstarter backers is what enables us to run and grow our business, gather customer feedback, design new products and improve existing ones. In the Kickstarter community, the items that you receive after making a pledge are referred to as “rewards” because they are technically not purchases in the traditional sense. Think of rewards as gifts—in our case, Motorcycle Mounts—that are sent to our supporters as a token of appreciation for their support of our business. In the same way that public television funds their service through the pledges of their supporters, who in turn receive gifts and continued programming, we have chosen to run and grow our business on a crowdfunded business model.
We appreciate your understanding of our policy and the support you have given us. If your reward truly offers no value to you, here are a few things that you could do in the spirit of crowdfunding…
-
Give your reward to a friend. Our products might not work for you, but there are many folks out there who might find them very valuable. We’d love for you to share our gear with a friend of yours.
-
Sell your reward on the PD Marketplace. Many Kickstarter rewards were purchased below the retail value – if you want to recuperate that value and possibly even more, throw your reward up on the PD Marketplace. It’s the easiest way to buy and sell used PD gear, and it has a 98% sell-through rate. Currently available in the US and Canada.
-
Give your reward another chance. Some of our products can take some getting used to. All of our gear is designed for use in a variety of scenarios. Maybe it doesn’t work for you right now, but perhaps you’ll find the right time and place in the future.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us at [email protected] if you have any questions.

Add-Ons: How do I order more than 1 Moto Mount?
It’s super easy. When you back the campaign, pick your reward level (which will contain 1 Moto Mount of your choice). On the next screen, you’ll see a list of add-ons. From there, you can add on as many additional Moto Mounts as you want.
Last updated: July 09, 2024 07:33
Add-Ons: How do I add on other Peak Design products to my reward?
A big perk of backing this project is getting access to a very big exclusive discount on all Peak Design gear. You can add other Peak Design products to your reward at a discount of up to 50%. Yes, HALF off. There are three ways to do this:
-
Add products when backing the project . When you first back this project, you’ll be asked to pick a reward level. Next, you’ll be shown a long list of add-ons. You can add as many other products to your reward as you want. We don’t charge additional shipping fees for add-ons.
-
Add products after you’ve backed the project. For the duration of this campaign (until Aug 12th) you can login to Kickstarter and manage/change your pledge to add on as many additional items as you want.
-
Add products in your fulfillment survey. After the campaign is over we’ll send out a fulfillment survey using a service called BackerKit. If you backed this project at a reward level that contains the new Micro Clutch, when you fill out that survey, you’ll have another opportunity to add on products for a Kickstarter-exclusive discount.
Note that our Add-On list does not contain every product we make (there are simply too many to add them all). It currently contains a selection of phone cases, Moto Mounts, and other Mobile accessories, plus a few other things.
If you’re looking to add something to your order that isn’t in our add-on menu, don’t worry. After the campaign is over we will sent all Kickstarter backers an exclusive discount code to use on the peakdesign.com website that can be applied to any/all of our products. Anything you order on our website will ship separately from your Kickstarter rewards. Note: backers who select “no reward” will not receive this exclusive discount.

What is REVER Pro and how do I get 3 free months?
Peak Design makes the world’s most advanced motorcycle phone mounts, and REVER makes the world’s most downloaded motorcycling app. So we partnered with them to offer Kickstarter backers and exclusive deal. It was a no-brainer.
REVER helps riders discover the world’s best motorcycling roads, create custom routes, track epic rides, compete for bragging rights in a variety of challenges, and share their riding experiences across social platforms. It is available on both iOS and Android, and works in conjunction with the REVER website. REVER has a global customer base and can be used anywhere around the world.
REVER is a free app with a limited set of features. REVER Pro is the app’s paid premium subscription level, containing the full range of features and functionality. REVER Pro offers perks like turn-by-turn naviation, offline maps & routes, weather alerts, interactive 3D maps, adventure planning, and more. Check out https://www.rever.co/pro for a full set of features.
Every reward level in this campaign includes an exclusive offer of 3 free months of REVER Pro. The offer will be distributed as a ‘digital reward’ after the campaign has ended and after backers have completed their fulfillment surveys. At that point, Peak Design will send backers an email containing a coupon code and instructions on how to redeem it.
To qualify for the REVER Pro offer, you must select one of our reward levels (you will not receive the discount if you select ‘no reward’). If you are already an active REVER Pro subscriber, you will not be able to use the discount toward your existing account.

Moto Mounts: I already own a Peak Design mount. Can I convert it to wireless charging?
The short answer is no, you cannot convert a non-charging Peak Design mount (moto mount or otherwise) into a wireless charging mount. If you want wireless charging, you need to purchase an entire new mount.
We purposely integrated wireless charging directly into the mount head, versus creating a wireless charging ‘module’ that you could add separately. We did this in order to create wireless charging mounts that are considerably more low profile and aesthetically clean than any other charging mount on the market. By integrating the charging hardware into the mount, it also makes the charging mount less expensive to a first-time purchaser.
If you have a non-charging Peak Design motorcycle mount and want to upgrade, your best bet would be to back this Kickstarter campaign (and get the exclusive Kickstarter discount) and then sell your old mount on the Peak Design Marketplace once you receive the new one. The PD Marketplace (market.peakdesign.com) is the easiest way to buy and sell used PD gear with other customers, and has a 98% sell-through rate. It’s currently available in the US and Canada.
If you recently purchased a non-charging motorcycle mount from the Peak Design website, note that we have a 30 day return policy.

What is BackerKit?
BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!
The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.
How does BackerKit work?
After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.
I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?
The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.
Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.
To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.
How do I update my shipping address?
BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.
When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?
That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.
I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?
As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
